Councils and Committees

The Division of Developmental Disabilities welcomes input from people with disabilities, their families, providers, advocates, community partners and other stakeholders as we improve our services and supports.

Volunteers are needed to support all of these councils and committees. Contact the DDD Volunteer Coordinator via email if you are interested in learning more.

Developmental Disabilities Advisory Council (DDAC)

The Developmental Disabilities Advisory Council (DDAC) is an advisory council to the Assistant Director of the Division of Developmental Disabilities on matters relating to developmental disabilities. The mission of the DDAC is to provide, in partnership with the Division of Developmental Disabilities, advisory oversight on behalf of members, families and providers.

Independent Oversight Committee (IOC)

The Independent Oversight Committees (formerly the Human Rights Committees) have moved from the Department of Economic Security (DES) to the Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA) effective August 2018. Meeting agendas and minutes can be found on the IOC website.

Member Advocacy Council (MAC)

The Member Advocacy Council (MAC) includes members enrolled with the Division who are or who have received DDD services. Other MAC volunteers include:

  • Family members
  • Professionals and advocates
  • DDD leaders

 The MAC gathers input. It also discusses issues and barriers members face. The MAC problem solves and looks for ways to improve service delivery.

Governance Committee

The Governance Committee includes members enrolled with the Division who are or who have received DDD services. Other Governance Committee volunteers include:

  • Family members
  • Professionals and advocates
  • DDD leaders

The Governance Committee works with Division leaders and staff to guide the Division’s strategic planning. It also identifies areas for improvement.

Program Review Committee (PRC)

The Program Review Committee (PRC) reviews any behavior treatment plans that meet the criteria outlined in Article 9 Managing Inappropriate Behaviors (Arizona Revised Statutes) regarding managing behaviors that are challenging to others. The PRC reviews and approves behavior treatment plans, or makes recommendations for changes as necessary.

The oversight committee formed by the Arizona Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act Oversight Committee

An Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) account is a savings program to provide persons with disabilities, their family and friends, the option to contribute to a tax-exempt savings account for disability-related expenses. The seven-member Arizona ABLE Act Oversight Committee makes recommendations and provides guidance for the establishment, implementation, and improvement of the program, including statutory and rule changes.

Arizona Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (ADDPC)

The ADDPC provides original research, education, advocacy and financial support to help Arizona residents with developmental disabilities and their families with employment, self-advocacy and community inclusion. Its mission is to develop and support capacity building and systemic change to increase inclusion and involvement of people with developmental disabilities in their communities through the promotion of self-determination, independence and dignity in all aspects of life
