AHCCCS Freedom to Work Program
The AHCCCS Freedom to Work program offers low-cost health insurance to qualified individuals who are working and have a disability. This program may be a good option for DDD members who want to work and retain their medical benefits.
What are the requirements?
Qualifying applicants must:
- Be a resident of Arizona
- Have a Social Security number
- Be a U.S. citizen or a qualified non-citizen
- Be employed and pay Social Security and Medicare taxes
- Be between the ages of 16 and 64
- Have a disability, meaning:
- You are receiving Social Security Disability (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI); or
- You have been determined to have a disability by the Disability Determination Services Administration (DDSA); or
- You have been determined medically and financially eligible for the Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS)
- Be financially eligible, meaning, have countable monthly earned income (after allowable deductions) under the annual financial limit (only about half of your earnings will be used as your monthly countable income). AHCCCS does not count the income of your family members or your unearned income
- Be willing to pay a monthly premium

- Doctors’ Visits
- Specialist Care
- Hospital Services
- Emergency Care
- Surgery
- Prescriptions
- Chiropractic Services
- Behavioral Health Services
- Laboratory and X-ray Services
- Family Planning Services
What is the cost?
You pay a monthly premium based on your income, which may be up to $35.
