ARIZONA@WORK provides a number of valuable, no-cost career resources to help job seekers fulfill their employment goals, and assist employers in building their workforce. Workforce Development Month provides an opportunity to highlight how the services provided by ARIZONA@WORK have helped job seekers and employers alike. Georgia native, Sabrina Levi, was able to successfully take advantage of ARIZONA@WORK services, as both a job seeker and later, a recruiter.
Sabrina felt pressure to quickly find employment when she and her daughter moved to the Grand Canyon State after caring for her elderly father. She looked up free employment services online, found ARIZONA@WORK and visited the North Phoenix office, where staff helped her create a resume and profile on Arizona Job Connection, the state’s largest jobs database.
“My resume was just a mess, and I remember [ARIZONA@WORK staff] took me to the back, fixed my resume and gave me so many resources, like how to find food, jobs, and training,” said Sabrina. “They helped me for about three weeks. They showed me how to put [my resume] online (Arizona Job Connection) and I was immediately getting hits for job offers.”
Sabrina accepted a case worker position in Scottsdale, but she wanted to find something that was closer to the Northwest Valley, as well as something that matched her interests. So after a short period of time, she returned to ARIZONA@WORK and asked for more resume assistance - this time to add her recent experience as a case manager.
When she put her resume back on Arizona Job Connection, she began to receive immediate attention from employers. One of them was Casa Senior Care, which ended up hiring her as its general manager.
“There were so many job offers I didn’t even know which way to go,” said Sabrina. She explained that during the interview for her new role, the hiring manager admired her resume. “They told me my resume was impressive. He felt like I was going to be great for the position, and hired me on the spot!”
Once she started working, Sabrina strategized ways to grow Casa Senior Care. She needed to onboard more caregivers and clients, so once again, she turned to ARIZONA@WORK for assistance with recruitment.
“I went back to where I started and said, ‘You know, this may be a great connection to put out our information for anyone looking for caregiver jobs” said Sabrina. “If anyone is looking for a job, I want to give back to them and help them get started the way that I got started.”
An ARIZONA@WORK staff member also traveled to her workplace, spoke with staff and helped her create a business profile for Casa Senior Care on Arizona Job Connection. She can now post Casa Senior Care job openings online.
“Everybody I talk to who is looking for a job, that’s where I send them,” said Sabrina. “I sent my son there, I sent my daughter there, I sent their friends there. ARIZONA@WORK has computers, jobs are displayed, they have people you can talk to, you can sign up with different programs and training. It’s a one-stop for me.”
