Hot Jobs in 2019
The New Year is an excellent time to start fresh with a new career. But for which jobs will employers be hiring? ARIZONA@WORK regularly works with our partners at the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) to assess labor market trends and identify which jobs will be the most in-demand and stable each year. Here are the top jobs and industries projected to do the most recruiting in Arizona this year.
Healthcare Support Occupations are projected to have the highest growth this year, with employers seeking to fill roles including, home health aides, occupational and physical therapist assistants and aides, massage therapists, dental and medical assistants, and medical equipment preparers, among others, according to OEO Research Administrator, Doug Walls.
Construction and Extraction Occupations are next in line to make significant hires throughout the state. According to the Department of Labor, these occupations are projected to grow rapidly due to our nation’s “overall growth in population and economy,” making our ever-growing state, no different. Construction and extraction jobs include boilermakers, pipe layers, masonry workers, painters, construction building inspectors, equipment operators and laborers, sheet metal workers, plumbers, drywall and solar photovoltaic (SP) installers, electricians, and much more.
"Arizona has seen remarkable population growth over the past three years, which helps drive demand for new residential and commercial construction alike,” explained Walls. “Opportunities within the construction industry for all skill levels are projected in nearly every local area around the state.”
Healthcare Practitioners and Technical Occupations came in third for highest demand in 2019. Some of these needed professions include dentists, orthodontists, pharmacists, surgeons, therapists, and audiologists.
Personal Care and Service Occupations are jobs that assist clients with daily living activities. Roles include child care providers, fitness instructors, barbers and cosmetologists, nail technicians, funeral service workers, and animal care workers.
