Yolanda Sonoqui became a registered volunteer with the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) in Yuma on September 9, 2012. Having been a foster parent for many years and caring for individuals both with and without disabilities, Yolanda has been able to use her experience, knowledge and love for people in a very positive way.
After being retired for more than 30 years from a local High School. Yolanda decided to give back to the community through volunteerism with DES. She also volunteers at local churches and says that "she loves being around youngsters."
In her volunteer role with DDD, she assists with a variety of duties, from answering phones, taking messages, greeting the public, filing, copying and metering mail. Yolanda volunteers 2 days per week, and to date, has donated more than 1,200 hours to DES.
Colleagues ask for Yolanda when she's not in the office because they love having her around. She is said to be very proactive and ready to work on any task that is assigned to her. According to her supervisor, she is reliable, skilled, personable and compassionate, and the office is very pleased to have her as a volunteer in the Division of Developmental Disabilities.
Thank you, Yolanda, for giving back to our community!
