The Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) recently published its State Plan on Aging, a landmark strategy that will inform how we deliver services to our aging population through September 2026. Our goals over the next four years are ambitious, as we continue to strive to provide critical services of the highest quality to Arizona’s growing aging population. According to projections from the University of Virginia Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, from 2020 to 2040, the number of Arizonans ages 60+ will increase by approximately 38.5 percent. As a result, the importance of our attention to aging services cannot be understated. Chief among our priorities are increasing access to care and support services, promoting healthy lifestyles to reduce long-term illness, and raising awareness of elder abuse so together we can prevent maltreatment of older adults.
