Tasya Peterson, Assistant Director of Communications
Tasya Peterson is the Assistant Director of Communications and Professional Development for DES where she oversees the agency’s internal and external communications functions, as well as the professional development area, which implements Department-wide training and career development. Ms. Peterson joined DES in December 2011 and has served the State of Arizona for eight years. As a key member of the Department's leadership team, she designs the strategic communications vision for the agency, oversees administrative functions, and manages all media, web, video and social media operations on behalf of the Department.
Ms. Peterson previously served as Deputy Press Secretary at the Governor’s Office where she handled media relations, communications, events and outreach, agency relations, and the design and implementation of the new website. Prior to her role as Deputy Press Secretary, Ms. Peterson served as Assistant Director of Communications for the Governor’s Office of Economic Recovery, where she handled communications relating to the nearly $3 billion the state received as a part of the stimulus act. Her additional employment experience includes Assistant Editor, Research Specialist and reporter for the Arizona Capitol Times’ Yellow Sheet Report, as well as Policy Advisor for Government Relations in a previous gubernatorial executive position. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with a specialized concentration in Pre-Law and a minor in Spanish.
Office of Communications at DES
The role of the Office of Communications is to provide information to DES stakeholders – including our staff, families, community partners and the media – about the programs and services at DES and how they work together to improve outcomes for children and families in Arizona. The office handles various information requests from the public regarding the more than 40 different programs and services offered by the Department. The Communications Director is the chief media spokesperson for DES and coordinates media interviews with DES staff and families, as well as the design and content of the DES Internet and Intranet Web sites.
