Phoenix - (April 20, 2026) Last week, Governor Katie Hobbs and the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) announced the launch of a new child care provider search tool for families, along with $3 million in grant awards to child care programs serving children during out-of-school time. “Governor Katie Hobbs understands that child care and early childhood education are essential for our economy, and for our entire state, to thrive,” said DES Director Michael Wisehart. “The Bright Futures AZ initiative is designed to set up the next generation for success. It empowers parents to work, learn, and engage with their community, and recognizes the importance of Arizona’s child care provider network and its dedicated workforce.
“These two new developments push this work further–and to every corner of the state. Prioritizing 30% of the out-of-school time grant for rural providers and families demonstrates the Governor’s commitment to all Arizonans. The launch of a new child care provider search tool helps families and employers better navigate available options in their area, and supports providers to build their business. The Governor’s continued investment in improving access to child care is essential for Arizona’s working families, our economy, and for the development and well-being of children from birth through their school-age years and beyond.”
