4 Ways DES Can Help Individuals with Developmental Disabilities Thrive in the Workforce
DES is proud to provide quality opportunities that enable individuals with developmental disabilities to overcome barriers and lead self-directed, healthy, and meaningful lives. In alignment with the Employment First initiative, DES believes that employment should be the first option for all individuals. The DES Vocational Rehabilitation Program and the Division of Developmental Disabilities collaborate to help individuals with developmental disabilities increase independence and self-sufficiency through participation in Competitive Integrated Employment.
Individuals with developmental disabilities can thrive in the workforce with the right support. Here are four ways that DES can help:
- Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities: The DES VR program helps individuals with disabilities access training and obtain employment.
- Individual Supported Employment provides clients with on-the-job coaching and training to support them after their VR services are completed.
- Employment Support Aide: Provides one-on-one support to help members stay employed.
- Transition to Employment: Personalized support is provided to help individuals develop the skills they need to transition from school to succeed in a competitive job market and reach their employment goals.
