How old do you have to be to volunteer in DES?
The department allows individuals under the age of eighteen to volunteer only with written parental permission and agreement of the supervising staff person.
What are some of the volunteer opportunities in DES?
DES needs volunteers with clerical skills; who may be bilingual; who are willing to transport DES clients Client Advocates; and Administrative Assistant. DES welcomes seniors, students, interns and public citizens. No formal degree is required.
Does the volunteer have to be fingerprinted?
If the work assignment involves working with elderly adults or children, yes a fingerprint card is needed.
Do I get to choose my assignment?
The volunteer is given an opportunity to express their area of interest and, based on that preference, every effort will be made to find a match.
What are the hours a volunteer must work?
The volunteer will be given an opportunity to express their hour(s) of preference when they are selected for an assignment.
Will the volunteer receive training?
Depending on the assignment, volunteers are provided written job descriptions and receive initial and on-going training to enable them to do the job. Volunteers are supervised regularly.
