People under 18 years old can volunteer with DES only if both of the following conditions are met:
They have written permission from a parent or guardian
The supervising staff member agrees
What are some of the volunteer opportunities in DES?
We have several volunteer roles available, including:
Office Helper: Help with paperwork, answering phones, and basic office tasks.
Driver: Drive clients safely to and from their appointments.
Client Supporter: Speak up for clients and help them get the services they need.
Language Helper: Translate for clients who speak languages other than English.
Who can volunteer?
Anyone can apply! We welcome students, interns, seniors, and all community members. You don't need a college degree.
Does the volunteer have to be fingerprinted?
If the work assignment involves working with elderly adults or children, yes a fingerprint card is needed.
Do I get to choose my assignment?
You can share your interests and preferred volunteer areas. DES will try to match you with an assignment that fits your interests whenever possible.
What are the hours a volunteer must work?
The volunteer will be given an opportunity to express their hour(s) of preference when they are selected for an assignment.
Will the volunteer receive training?
Depending on the assignment, volunteers are provided written job descriptions and receive initial and on-going training to enable them to do the job. Volunteers are supervised regularly.
