Katherine Echoles opened her home to provide child care in 1996, driven by a lifelong love for children, whether that be her actual children, her grandchildren, or the many families she has supported over the years.

“I am a dedicated child care provider with a deep passion for nurturing children and supporting families in my community,” Katherine shared. “Over the years, I’ve invested in my education and training, completing coursework in child development, safety, nutrition, and early childhood education.”
Katherine launched her in-home child care center with the support of DES’s Certified Child Care Provider program, a partnership she describes as transformative.
“My experience with the [DES Child Care Program] has been incredibly positive and impactful,” she said. “The program has provided valuable resources, guidance, and support that have strengthened both my skills and my confidence as a provider.”
Through the program, Katherine has stayed current with best practices in early childhood education, health, and safety. She says it has also helped her feel connected to a broader community that truly values high‑quality child care.

“The encouragement and knowledge I’ve gained have directly benefited the children and families I serve,” she added.
Today, Katherine has built a program that focuses not only on care but on whole‑child development, emotional, social, and academic. She takes pride in creating a space where children feel secure, valued, and inspired to reach their full potential.
“Being a child care provider is deeply rewarding,” Katherine said. “I gain a sense of purpose knowing I’m making a meaningful difference in the lives of children during their most important developmental years. I also build strong relationships, not just with the children, but with their families. Every day brings new moments of joy, learning, and fulfillment.”
For those considering a career in child care, Katherine offers heartfelt advice: lead with patience, consistency, and compassion.
“This field requires more than supervision; it requires dedication, understanding, and a genuine commitment to each child’s well‑being,” she explained. “Continue learning and investing in your education, because best practices are always evolving. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or seek out resources, and most importantly, remember why you started. When challenges arise, that purpose will keep you grounded and motivated.”
