As of October 2025, construction accounted for roughly 8% of Arizona’s workforce, roughly 250,000 people, according to the Eastern Progress website, highlighting the industry’s vital role in the state’s economy. Registered Apprenticeship opportunities like the ones offered through Rummel Construction Co. provide an opportunity for employers to invest in their staff while increasing opportunities for Arizona’s workforce.
Rummel has long prioritized employee growth, even before officially launching its three registered apprenticeship programs in 2018. These programs, Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO), Heavy Equipment Mechanic (HEM), and Craft Construction Laborer (CCL), are designed to build skilled professionals through structured, hands-on training. The HEO and HEM tracks span three years, while the CCL program runs for two.
Each Registered apprenticeship offers immersive, trade-specific instruction:
These programs are built to launch long-term careers in construction, equipping participants with the practical experience and technical knowledge needed to thrive, work safely, and contribute meaningfully to their teams. In addition, each apprentice receives a nationally recognized credential when completing any of these three apprenticeships.
“It’s been great. I feel like there’s a good balance between hands-on work and learning processes, and national standards,” stated apprentice Nick McDonnell. “We do online training every couple of months, have field days, and spend some time in the office for training. Recently, we even got a simulator, which is fun to use and gives a great experience on different equipment.”
